Fellowship Available to Ph.D. Applicants A Gilbert Foundation fellowship is available to qualified Ph.D. applicants. Annual stipends can range up to $25,000 or $30,000 depending on degree and other factors. These fellowships allow the student considerable latitude in pursuing research interests by providing funding for graduate research and travel to present papers or posters at scientific meetings. In addition to a monthly stipend, the fellowship covers tuition, all fees, and it has an allowance for student health insurance. Fellowship recipients must have academic credentials that generally place them in the upper 5 % of applicants to the graduate program in the School of Renewable Natural Resources, which is determined by GRE scores, GPA, letters of references, and other evidence of the applicant's potential. Louisiana State University is a comprehensive Research I institution enrolling more than 28,000 students. The campus is located in south Louisiana, 60 minutes from New Orleans, close to Louisiana’s Cajun country, and in the heart of the state’s abundant forestry, wildlife, and fisheries resources. The School of Renewable Natural Resources has a teaching, research, and extension faculty of 30, which includes adjunct professors of the US Geological Survey’s Louisiana Cooperative Fish and Wildlife Research Unit. The faculty in the School is committed to innovative teaching, state-of-the-art research, and quality extension programs designed to train well-rounded natural resource professionals.
