ASSISTANT PROFESSOR

Chemical Technologies to Remove Preservatives from

Decommissioned Preservative-Treated Wood

WORK LOCATION:  Calhoun Research Station, LSU AgCenter. Calhoun, Louisiana 

NATURE OF WORK:  This is 100% tenure track, research position. Responsibilities will involve development of an externally funded research program dealing with the development of novel chemistry techniques that are environmentally friendly and economically viable to remove residual preservatives from decommissioned preservative-treated wood.   Candidate must develop and obtain research grants, conduct original and innovative research, and publish findings in a variety of outlets.  The successful candidate will be encouraged to advise graduate students and conduct collaborative research with colleagues. Service to local, state, national, and international clientele is expected.

 QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:  Ph.D. in Wood Science, Wood Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Polymer Science, Materials Science, or a closely related field. Preference will be given to those with research experience in the field of liquefaction and hydrothermal treatment of wood.   Familiarity with topics including development of novel chemical extraction techniques from decommissioned preservative-treated wood waste, development of adhesives and other industrially useful chemicals from decommissioned of preservative-treated wood is highly desirable. We seek a candidate with some technical experience in developing and conducting research in the aforementioned areas.   The successful applicant will be encouraged to interact with faculty at the LSU AgCenter, Louisiana Forest Products Development Center, School of Renewable Natural Resources, Louisiana Tech University, and other colleagues and stakeholders as appropriate.  Applicants should be able to work effectively with industry groups and be capable of communicating effectively with diverse audiences.

 SALARY AND BENEFITS:  Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. The LSU AgCenter has an attractive benefits package with a wide variety of benefit options.
