PhD or MS Assistantship - use of LiDAR in forest ecology and silviculture

I am looking for a graduate student to supplement and continue our work with LiDAR data and color infrared imagery in north Alabama hardwood forest stands. The work will contribute to our understanding of forest structure and improve our application of silvicultural treatments. Desired educational background includes a degree in forestry or natural resources and
experience in working with LiDAR and other remotely sensed data. Available for the student will be a laptop, desktop, specialized software, travel funds, undergraduate student assistants, a technician, and any equipment and supplies needed for the work. Funded by the National Science Foundation. There are approximately a dozen other graduate students working on different aspects of the project at this time. The area has plenty of outdoor recreational opportunities within a short driving distance.

Desired starting date: Spring or Summer Semester of 2008.

Women, minorities, and persons with disabilities are encouraged to apply.
