Graduate Assistantships Currently Available (as of November 2009)
Assistantships are available to support research in forested wetlands in Louisiana. Students will pursue a graduate degree in Watershed Science; both MS and PhD applicants will be considered.
1. Forested Wetland
Ecohydrology and Dendrochronology --
two students needed
Research: using tree rings (dendrochronology) to understand
forest responses to changing hydrological conditions.
Research projects are in the
Atchafalaya
Basin and
Catahoula Lake, Louisiana; and in the lower White River, Arkansas.
2. Forested Wetland Hydrology
Research: quantifying the hydrological budget of
forested wetlands in the
Atchafalaya
Basin at multiple scales. This work will combine physical measurements and
naturally-occurring tracers of flowpaths and residence times (18O,
2H, DOC).
Qualifications: B.S. in natural resources, geosciences, or engineering; minimum GRE scores (Verb. + Quant) 1000, minimum undergraduate GPA 3.0. Successful applicants will be self-motivated but able to work well in teams.

Graduate Fellowships Available
The School of Renewable Natural Resources offers graduate fellowships Gilbert Foundation to outstanding students. The possibilities for research focus are broad.
In other words, if the assistantships available right now are not a perfect match for your interests but you are interested in the hydrological ecology and management of forested wetlands, you should still contact me.
