LEAVES: opposite, simple, evergreen; very glossy leaves

FLOWER: dense clusters; white to yellowish; very fragrant; spring

FRUIT: small black drupes in dense clusters

HABITAT: understory, moist sites

RANGE: exotic; naturalized throughout the south

USES: ornamental; wildlife cover; many birds use seed
